Sign in Fox on the way to the Dalton Highway, Alaska
The Dalton Highway (a.k.a. the Haul Road) is used mostly by truckers. The independent truckers that drive the Haul Road all year long must be struggling. I paid $5.69 a gallon for regular unleaded at the rare gas station along the road, so I can't imagine what the price of a gallon of diesel must be going for...$6.00/gal. ?

Dolores For Scale...
These images were shot from a helicopter with the door taken off...one of the CRAZIEST and most exciting photo gigs I've ever had! I was terrified...not for myself but for Dolores!! Before the pilot (Kevin) and I took off I asked her if she would mind being my scale for a large pano that I was shooting of the Sagwon Bluffs on the Sagavanirktok River along the Haul Road on the North Slope (she is the little speck inside the red circle in the top image). What I didn't realize until I was in the process of shooting the pano from the helo was that she had maneuvered herself down the slope of the cliff. As I was shooting I realized just how close to the edge of the cliff she had moved. From her perspective she was perfectly safe, but from my perspective she was right on the edge. We made three slightly terrifying passes with the helicopter, the last one right over the top of her. I was SO GLAD to see her safe when we set down!!
