Ghost Chair

Dolores and I were dropped off by helicopter along the Ivishak River pretty much in the middle of nowhere on the North Slope of Alaska and we decided to take a reconnaissance hike for some work that we were going to do in the next few days. When we got to the top of the highest ridge Dolores found this chair. We have no idea how it got there or who put it there but it was the perfect place for a chair. The view from the chair was spectacular. I took a photo of the chair and the view while sitting in it. I hope you like it as much as we did. The view is to the south looking at the Ivishak River and the north side of the Brooks Range. We left the chair there for the next people who might wander through.

Cabin Facelift

My cabin, and all of my neighbors cabins are being given a "facelift" with extra insulation and new siding. The cabins are all heated with heating oil from 200-300 gallon containers behind the house. Our landlord (Larry) is awesome, and heat is included in our rent (which is EXTREMELY RARE up here). The cost of heating oil is so high that filling a 200-300 gallon tank can cost up to $1000. Up here some cabins can burn through two tanks per winter (mine is about one). The single layer of paneling covering the house just won't cut it anymore. (P.S. Check out the cool new caribou racks we snagged from the Slope this summer!)
