Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel
This tunnel, which allows access to the town of Whittier-Alaska, is the longest combined rail and highway use tunnel in North America (2.5 miles long through a mountain). The tunnel is only one, single lane and allows passage of trains as well as cars. The direction of travel is reversed every 1/2 hour. Notice the railroad tracks in the roadway.
