The Winter Solstice: Fairbanks Alaska, December 21st...at Noon
This photomosaic was shot at exactly high noon on Dec. 21st looking dead south from Fairbanks across the Tanana Basin towards the Alaska Range. This is the highest in the sky that the sun gets on the winter solstice. The colors in the photograph are true. Until today the days were getting shorter (we were loosing 7 minutes of light per day for awhile). As of today we will be gaining light each day until the summer solstice in late July. Each day will be up to seven minutes longer than the previous day...Hooray!! P.S... Thank you Mr. Raven.
